Preliminary remarks: Chinese dates are given in the usual system of dynastic eras, and the sexagesimal cycle applied to the numeration of the successive days and years of the Chinese calendrical and chronological system is used without warning. Explanation of these subjects, however, are easily found in a large number of Western sources mentioning the Chinese calendar in one way or another1.
