Investigated whether the pattern of results for item subgroups differs for specifically language impaired (SLI) children relative to normal language (NL) children on nonverbal IQ tests. 11 SLI and 12 NL children (aged 4 yrs 1 mo to 4 yrs 4 mo) were administered the Kaufman Assessment Battery for Children. 21 SLI and 24 NL children (aged 4 yrs 9 mo to 5 yrs 2 mo) were administered the Leiter International Performance Scale. Results indicated that relations among skills for SLI Ss differed from those for NL Ss on both measures of nonverbal IQ. This suggests that the nonverbal cognitive system of SLI children is not comparable to that of NL children.(PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2022 APA, all rights reserved)
