The Internet Bird Collection (IBC) is a non‐profit making endeavour with the goal of disseminating knowledge about the world's avifauna. It is a free online library of videos and other audio‐visual material about the birds of the world which is available to the general public, who only need to register to be able to access the information. In September of 2002 the IBC had only 172 species in its video library. As of the time of review, there are over 62,000 videos covering over 7,400 species, or roughly 90 per cent of all species, and this is growing day by day.The Handbook of the Birds of the World (RR 2008/360)(published by Lynx Edicions) is the main sponsor of the IBC (they cover all the costs of designing and setting up the site–servers, connection and staff) and the videos are contributed by people all over the world. IBC's long‐term objective is to include several videos of each species engaged in various activities like nesting, feeding and courtship displays.
