The following case has been written in a ‘practitioner’style, a style and language that is often used in real world settings. It is presented in a structured form but clearly illustrates a system that is complex. We believe there are issues of perception, interactions, relationships, structures, practices, identities and boundaries that are very much theoretical, but are embedded and need to be discussed in a transdisciplinary manner.The issue of achieving an outcome (ie reducing the fear of crime) is a service that needs to be rendered, but such a service is one that is created within the system and it is unclear by whom. Often, we reduce the case to a certain perspective to achieve a ‘solution’. This is not the case here. This call aims to encourage abstracts (see formal call for papers document) to initiate a robust discussion in a manner that would allow academic disciplines and domain areas to interact with each other. It is as much about insights to the case as it is about insights to ourselves collaborating in understanding complex service systems, locating our arguments and contributions, growing the knowledge needed and building on interfaces necessary to advance knowledge in this area.
