25 instances of a small tumor of the thyroid, designated as non-encapsulated sclerosing tumor, were encountered incidentally in the examination of thyroids which in 23 instances were removed surgically for non-neoplastic goiter and in 2 were incidental findings at autopsy. In none of the clinical cases was there local recurrence or distant metastasis. These tumors are benign. Theories as to their genesis and their relation to papillary thyroid carcinoma are considered.
