Two separately different types of B800-850 complex have been isolated from high- and low-light-grown cells of Rhodopseudomonas palustris. These complexes have distinct pigment and polypeptide composition. The high-light complex has a bacteriochlorophyll:carotenoid ratio of 2:1, while the low-light complex has a bacteriochlorophyll:carotenoid ratio of 3:1. The efficacy of carotenoid to bacteriochlorophyll singlet-singlet energy transfer in both types of complex is similar.
