Whether amblyopes exhibit contrast deficiencies for other than threshold stimuli was investigated. The threshold deficits measured in amblyopia showed no simple relationship to what happens above threshold. No contrast coding abnormality existed in amblyopia in the high-contrast range typical of everyday vision. Suprathreshold evidence for different neural bases in anisometropic and strabismic amblyopia is presented.
