The photoelectron spectrum of the ethylene glycol (C 4 O 2 H 6) molecule is presented for the valence region up to 25 eV. Assignments of the electron bands are given with reference to the methanol and water molecules. A conformational analysis is performed by comparison between the experimentally determined ionization energies and those calculated for different conceivable geometries employing the HAM/3 method. It is found that the molecule possesses a gauche conformation with a twist angle of about 60 around the CC bond and that it has a single internal hydrogen bond.
