A subgroup of a group G is called modular if it is a modular element of Ž. the lattice G of all subgroups of G. It is clear that every normal subgroup of a group is modular, but arbitrary modular subgroups need not be normal; thus modularity may be considered as a lattice generalization of normality. Lattices with modular elements are also called modular. Ž
