Indicates that the focus of psychiatric epidemiology is changing, with increased attention being paid to the study of causes. The authors describe how in this issue of the Schizophrenia Bulletin (2000, Vol 26 [2]), 3 groups of psychiatric researchers report on their use of US birth cohorts to study the determinants of schizophrenia.
