Using the venous occlusion plethys-mographic method, a study was made of the rate of blood flow in the human leg during rhythmic contraction of the gastrocnemius muscle. The results confirmed the findings of others that during the period of effort the mechanical hindrance of the contractions reduced the flow to 40%.
