Hypertension in pregnancy (HP), including preeclampsia, is known to be a multifactorial disease. Recently, a Glu298Asp variant of the endothelial nitric oxide synthase gene (NOS3) was identified as being associated with coronary spasm and myocardial infarction, whereas it has been reported that endothelial nitric oxide synthase plays a role in HP. We therefore performed an association study of the Glu298Asp variant with HP among 152 H-P patients and 335 normal pregnant control individuals, in the context of other risk factors before pregnancy.
