The comparability of data obtained by the estimation of morphometric characters in fish depends on two factors. One of them is the size of difference, morphological distance (D) revealed between the compared objects in a certain analyzed character. The second factor comprises subjective discrepancies (bias) possible in the estimation of the state of this character. The possibility of mathematically assessing these factors is discussed.
