T E cyprinodontid fish Rivulus marmoratus Poey has been full of surprises since it was found alive in Florida (Harrington and Rivas, 1958), following its revival as a valid species, on the basis of long overlooked museum specimens (Rivas, 1945). All specimens taken in the wild by the writer have had the external appearance typical of the females of this genus but have proved to be hermaphrodites (Harrington, 1961), emitting self-fertilized eggs with intraparental incubations ranging from a few minutes to 21 days, followed by much longer extraparental incubations (Harrington, 1963). Tissue grafts between each wild-caught progenitor and its uniparental laboratory descendants and among the latter so tested gave the autograft reaction, showing that they belong to one clone, while grafts between some wild-caught individuals of R. marmoratus and between the uniparental descendants of some and those of others
