MethodPatients were selectedfrom men and women of any age or race, who met National Institute of Neurologicaland Communicative Disorders and Stroke criteria for a diagnosis of probable AD (McKhann eta!, 1985). They had a standardisedphysicaland psychiatricevaluation, which included a computerised tomography (CT) scan and relevant laboratoryinvestigations, to excludepatientswith evidence of any other significant illnesses.
