Conducted 2 experiments to determine why bizarre imagery facilitates recall in some studies but not in others. In Exp I, images based on bizarre sentences facilitated free recall for the 32 undergraduate Ss more than images based on nonbizarre sentences. The reverse was true for cued recall. Exp II, in which 72 undergraduates participated, found evidence for a type of intersentence cuing that is present in the nonbizarre conditions. It is concluded that nonbizarre images are better integrated, and that cuing must be carefully evaluated in any experiment concerned with the effect of bizarre imagery on recall.(11 ref)(PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2016 APA, all rights reserved)
