Al–Pb alloys with hyper-monotectic composition were melted and solidified under normal gravity and microgravity condition to investigate the influence of microgravity on solidified microstructure of hyper-monotectic alloys. The cooling rate of a sample solidified under normal gravity was around 130 K s−1. A sample solidified under normal gravity had sedimentation of large β-Pb particles at the bottom position of the sample. In contrast, the cooling rate of a sample solidified under microgravity was around 70 K s−1. The microstructure of the sample consisted of comparatively homogeneous distribution of lead particles in all positions, even though the cooling rate of the sample solidified under microgravity was much lower than that of the sample solidified under normal gravity.
