It is shown that inclusive cross sections are discontinuities across certain cuts in the connected .parts of appropriate multiparticle scattering amplitudes. This relationship, which is analogous to the well-known connection between total cross sections and total discontinuities, has been used in recent work on the theory ofhigh-energy reactions.
