The 1976 SAKATA Big Fire is the notorious fire disaster which hit the recent Japanese cities. The 22.5 hectare of central district of SAKATA city was burnt down and the 3,300 persons of 1,023 households were burnt out of house and home. It is the aim of this study to clarify how to make a recovery of their livelihood and business for themselves in a decade after the Fire, by the method of questionnare. It is remarkable that the most part of sufferers were supported commpletely by the relatives who lived in and around SAKATA city, until the reconstruction of their houses of two years after. In spite of all their efforts, the incomings and sales of many sufferers have not yet been recovered in a decade after the Fire.
