The following theoretical predictions can be made for continuous fibers in which conduction is brought about by local electric circuits: (1) The velocity in a fiber with a folded membrane should be independent of the length of the fiber provided that the total area of membrane remains constant and that stretch does not alter the local electric properties of the membrane. When measured in a large volume, the conduction velocity of fibers with identical membranes and axoplasm should vary as the square root of the fiber diameter. When measured in small volumes, the conduction velocity of a fiber should be inversely proportional to the square root of the sum of the external and internal resistances per unit length.
