In the course of an x-ray study of the influence of annealing or absorption of solvent vapor on the phase change from the planar zigzag form to the helical form, we found that the planar zigzag form was transformed, by exposing it to several kinds of organic solvent vapor, to a new crystalline phase having a chain repeat of 11.60 8,(ie, different from 5.06 A for the planar zigzag form and 7.5 for the helical form). This new crystalline phase is, however, not a molecular compound of sPP with the solvents as in the case of syndiotactic p~ lystyrene,~ but a genuine polymer phase.
