Images were fixed on one spot of the human retina by means of a minute projector attached to a contact less worn by an observer. The image vanishes and reappears in parts. Complex images regenerate in meaningful units, explained as "perceptual elements" rather than sensory elements according to the cell-assembly theory of preception. That the same effects show up in experiments with meaningless figures supports the Gestalt concept[long dash]contiguity and similarity determine the functioning of isolated patterns. A modern theory of perception will result from a mating of the two theories.
