In this paper we study a family ofC∗-algebras which occurs naturally in the study ofC∗-algebras generated by weighted shifts. We show that these algebras are simple modulo the compacts, and while they share many of the properties of uniformly hyperfiniteC∗-algebras, they are not approximately finite dimensional.
