The recent changes in Latin American cities is the execution -either through public or private investment -from large urban projects, mainly in traditional neighborhoods and historic districts. Paradoxically, it seems that projects that are geared towards the benefit of the public, have led to a series of protests, social unrest and urban claims against these public actions. Mexico City has not been immune to this trend. To illustrate these approaches addresses a paradigmatic case: the project "Urban Highway East". The methodology of analytical categories related to the reconstruction of the most significant facts about the project from the collection and systematization of news reports, government reports and public statements of political actors, organizations, activists and residents affected.
