This handbook provides an up to date guide to the properties and applications of bitumen for the civil engineer in road and airfield construction and maintenance. This edition has been fully revised to reflect the many recent advances in asphalt technology, including the development of new mixtures, improved understanding of the mechanisms by which pavements fail, and the availability of high performance bitumens. Other new topics include high friction and coloured surfacings, and recycling asphalts. The handbook also provides an update on the standard procedures and methods necessary for using asphalt.
