In the past decade, tantalum nitride (Ta3N5) has attracted extensive attention because it possesses a narrow band gap of 2.08 eV, corresponding to light absorption up to 600 nm, a property that makes it suitable for a visible-light-driven photocatalyst.[1–6] In other words, it can collect more than 45% of the solar energy, a value that is larger than that of some typical oxide-based visible-light-driven photocatalysts, such as (Ga1ÀxZnx) ACHTUNGTRENNUNG (N1ÀxOx)[7] and In1ÀxNixTaO4,[8] and therefore Ta3N5 has recently become one of the most attractive photocatalysts. Since the first report on the photocatalytic activity of bulk Ta3N5 in 2002,[3] many studies have focused on designing various Ta3N5 nanostructures to improve their photocatalytic activity as bulk Ta3N5 has relatively poor photoACHTUNGTRENNUNGcat-ACHTUNGTRENNUNGalytic activity. For example, nanoparticles (NPs), mesoporous NPs, nanotube arrays, hollow spheres, and meso-microporous hollow spheres of Ta3N5 have been successfully synthesized and at the same time confirmed to exhibit improved photocatalytic activity compared with their bulk counterparts.[9–14] Among these reported Ta3N5 nanostructures, mesoporous structures possess the best catalytic activity. This is because the mesoporosity of the catalysts can greatly enhance access of reactant molecules to the catalytically active sites, thus resulting in high catalytic activity. Therefore, designing and synthesizing mesoporous Ta3N5 is an important strategy for achieving higher catalytic performance.Conventional synthesis of Ta3N5 is mainly based on the high-temperature reaction of nitrogen, ammonia, or a hydrogen/nitrogen mixture with metallic Ta, its oxide, or its chloride, usually at temperatures around 10008C.[2, 15, 16] The most serious disadvantage associated with these preparation methods is the lack of control over crystallinity and particle size, and therefore the thus-synthesized Ta3N5 generally has a large size and a small specific surface area. To overcome these problems, templates, such as poly (styrene-co-acryl-
