The critical current density increased with increasing the degree of cold-working, that is, a positive correlation was observed with tape thickness, when the Ag-sheathed tapes were prepared by either the pressing or cold-rolling technique. The improvement of critical current density was attributed to the structural refinements such as textured grain structure, high densification and so on. Pressing was found to be a more effective technique than cold-rolling. The best value of the critical current density in the present study was 11400 A cm-2 at 4.2 K.
