Several authors [l, 3, 4, 6, 8, 10, 111 have established sufficient conditions for linear retarded functional differential equations of the form x’(r)= ia, x (t-rr,), ri 2 0, i= l to be asymptotically stable for all values of the delay. We propose to generalize these results in two directions. First, we will consider functional partial differential equations, and second, we will establish necessary and sufficient conditions for this class of equtions to be asymptotically stable for all values of the delays. Our results will include these previous results as corollaries.
