The papers published in this special issue were presented at the "International Conference on the Political and Economic Consequences of Decentralization" at Santiago de Compostela, Galicia, Spain, 5-6 November 2009. The conference was organized by REDE and the University of Vigo, and was sponsored by the Galician regional government (Ministry of Presidency and Public Administration and Ministry of Education), the Spanish Institute of Fiscal Studies, and Grupo Cuevas.
