We experimentally studied the thermal conductance of single and loop type heat pipes for a solar collector. Evaporator-part of the heat pipe is 1 m-long, 6 mm-diameter and 30°-inclination. Effects of heat transfer rate, saturation temperature of the working fluid, liquid fill ratio, and inclined angle on the thermal conductance are examined. We found that the thermal conductance of the inclined loop type heat pipe is 40-50 (W/K), which is 10% higher than that of a vertical loop type and 3 times higher than that of a single tube type. There is the optimum liquid fill ratio, which is a function of heat transfer rate. When the liquid fill ratio is too small, dry-out portion appears in the evaporator. When the liquid fill ratio is too large, the liquid enters in the condenser to decrease heat transfer area.
