In order to discover whether or not neutral amino acids were bound by proteins at neutral pH, human serum albumin and human gamma-globulin were dialyzed against a tenfold excess of C14-labeled glycine, leucine or phenylalanine, and radioactivity measurements performed on the protein solution and the dialysate. Under the above conditions no binding of the amino acids by the proteins could be demonstrated. An improved technique was developed whereby protein solutions containing C14-labeled amino acids could be pipetted onto the planchets, dried and counted.
