Presented in this chapter is the application of emissive rare earth complexes and upconversion luminescence nanophosphors into chemosensing and bioimaging. The first part focuses on the application of rare earth complexes as luminescent chemosensors for pH value, anions, cations and neutral small molecules. The second part describes the application of emissive rare earth complexes into bioimagingin vitroby fluorescence microscopy, time‐resolved fluorescence microscopy and multiphoton microscopy. The third part concerns the development of upconversion luminescence nanophosphors in bioimagingin vitroandin vivo.
