Polarized magnetophotoluminescence was conducted on Cd 1− x Mn x Te with x= 0.12 and x= 0.18. Temperature and magnetic-field dependences of the exciton luminescence spectra showed clear competing processes between localization caused by alloy potential fluctuations and magnetic polarons. The asymmetry of the photoluminescence line was used to judge the type of exciton localization. The effect of the exciton magnetic polarons was most enhanced at around 0.5–1 T, and vanished at fields higher than 3 T, while that of alloy potential fluctuations exhibited a monotonic increase up to 3.5 T.
