Safe Road Trains for the Environment (SARTRE) is a European Commission FP7 co-funded project that aims to develop strategies and technologies to allow vehicle platoons to operate on normal public highways with significant environmental, safety and comfort benefits. In the project different use cases are defined and verified via simulation using the traffic flow simulation tool PELOPS. The influence of the platooning system on the traffic efficiency is investigated as well. This paper presents PELOPS simulation results, which show the impact of platoons on the traffic flow efficiency.
