ConclusionsThe NMR results support the previous interpretation of gradation of the anthroyloxy moiety in n-(9-anthroyloxy) stearic acid probes away from the micelle-water interface for C12E8, CTAC, STS, and SHS surfactant assemblies. The gradation is however not particularly pronounced, with a distinct bias still for the region around the outer methylene groups of the micelle core. For SDS and to a lesser extent STS, micelle growth occurs in the presence of the probe. The location of the anthroyloxy group, based on NMR chemical shifts, appears tobe around the-(CH2)„-groups of the larger undefined aggregates, which possess a lower fluidity than the unperturbed micelles.Acknowledgment.
