Taken together, data for 344 varietal or interspecific mixtures show that mixture yields tend to lie above the mean of the component monoculture yields. Relative yield total (produced when increase of one component in a mixture is compensated by a decrease in another) is shown to be unity for biomass data in 572 mixtures. Interactions causing under- or over-production are discussed.
