Pancreatic cancer is one of the major killers, and now represents the fourth leading cause of cancer-related mortality in men and women, according to recent statistics. 1 Approximately 200,000 people are diagnosed worldwide with pancreatic cancer each year. 2 Radical surgical treatment still represents the only chance for cure, but unfortunately surgery alone is not the definitive treatment for this dismal disease. 3 Recently, multimodal concepts including chemotherapy, radiotherapy as well as immunotherapy have considerably increased the life expectancy after surgery for pancreatic cancer. 4, 5
