Sir: Zone electrophoresisin capillaries (1-19) has become a rapidly developing field of research. This technique, termed capillary zone electrophoresis (CZE), employs extremely high potential fields resulting in highly efficient separations of ionic solutes. High efficiency combined with the ability to handle ultrasmall volume samples make CZE an attractive method for many biological separations.High potentials can be applied across buffer-filled capillaries due to the efficient heat dissipation afforded by glass (1-5, 7) and fused silica (8, 10-19) capillaries. CZE work reported to date has employed capillaries having bore diameters ranging from 25 (8, 19) to 500 pm (1), with 50-80 pm being most
