We present a general conjecture on congruences between Hecke eigenvalues of induced and cuspidal automorphic representations, of a connected reductive group over Q that splits over an imaginary quadratic extension, modulo divisors of critical values of certain L-functions. We examine the consequences for various unitary groups, including some fragments of numerical evidence.
