While keeping antenna size, a technique to narrow down the radiation patterns of the antennas operationally was proposed because of false operation of security gate to prevent shoplifting. The main emphasis was placed on the analog signal processing using the monopulse antenna system. After identifying the detected arrival angle of RF-waves from RFID-Tags, the positions of the RFID-Tags can be recognized, and thus, the RFID-Tags can tell whether they were lifted or not. Two microstrip patch antennas, being placed for a distance of 16mm in a small sized security gate box, were connected with a 180 degree hybrid coupler, and the performance of the arrival angle detection was investigated theoretically and experimentally at 920MHz. The half power beam width was successfully performed to be less than 20 degrees operationally, and thus, no false operation was able to observe.
