This paper contains estimates of the components of skewness in the distribution of wage changes in panel data. How much of the skewness is attributable to downward nominal wage rigidity—a question of great importance for monetary policy—and how much is attributable to other factors (e.g., downward real wage rigidity, mixing bias, and selection bias)? The theme is that there is more to downward nominal wage rigidity than skewness of wage changes.
