the rank and file of the dominant political party. Finally, there are the Protestants. As mentioned above, they have rejected much of traditional Indian culture, and are free to respond more readily to innovation. Some of the most progressive Indian farmers are Protestants. To some extent this group overlaps the second group just discussed, since, by being critical of the status system, Protestantism holds an appeal for young men who have participated in other systems. It seems probable that as population grows, as pressure on the land increases, and as the pueblo participates increasingly in national political structure, the ranks of these groups will continue to grow.
