A number of organisations have developed their own versions of ‘teacher training’ programmes and, in Australia, an excellent programme has recently been disseminated in all states. The Royal Children’s Hospital has its own ‘Teaching As You Go’ programme for trainees to learn more about ‘on the job’ teaching. The programme involves four workshops, conducted in the evenings, for groups of six teachers. The main subject areas covered are contemporary approaches in medical education, teaching practical skills, giving feedback and using questioning techniques.
