A review of the literature indicates that retention of recently acquired information can be altered by different posttraining treatments that affect hormonal and neuromodulatory systems (H&NSs). Support is given to the general hypothesis that endogenous H&NSs activated by learning may play an important role in regulating the storage of information. Recent research has investigated the role of the amygdala and the interaction of the adrenergic, cholinergic, and opioid-peptide systems.(PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2020 APA, all rights reserved)
