Chlamydia trachomatis, an obligate intracellular parasite, is one of the most common sexually transmitted patho-gens [1]. Because of the high prevalence and associated sequelae of prolonged infection with C. trachomatis, such as infertility and ectopic pregnancy [2], routine screening for this pathogen has been strongly recommended [3].
