Highly crystalline hydroxyapatite (Hap) was successfully synthesized in form of nanoscale powder with needle-like nanocrystalls by precipitation. The Hap powder was further used to reinforce hydrogels and prepare nanocomposites for potential scaffold applications. Dynamic mechanical analysis showed that it is feasible to improve the Hydrogel/Hap dynamic stiffness in compression as high as 400% by adding a mere 0.32 wt% Hap (or 0.5 wt% theoretically). On the other hand at the same weight fractions of Hap some improvement was experienced also for the 0.32 wt% Hap specimens. Hap weight fractions higher than 0.5 wt% lead to property deterioration.
