about 1.5 nCi of zinc-65 and about 3 nCi of cobalt-60. As a result of these findings, he was referred for body radioactivity measurements 2 days after the incident. The presence in vivo of most of these nuclides was established, and, while the burden of each was small compared with the maximum permissible (2), the levels of the two principal contaminants suggested that a prolonged study of their retention and distribution might be possible. METHODS AND MEASUREMENTS The subject was measured periodically in the Harwell whole-body y-ray spectrometer (3) which employed four 4-inch X 2-inch sodium iodide crystal detectors situated two above and two below the supine subject. The first measurement was made 2 days after the incident, and subsequently spectra were obtained at intervals increasing from about 5 days during the first few weeks to about 2 months after a year had elapsed. The spectra were analyzed for their constituent activities by a computer method of least-squares fitting (4). Standard spectra were obtained from known amounts of each activity in phantoms, and the computer calculated the amounts of each which, when combined, would provide the best fit to each of the in
