The Great East Japan Earthquake and the resulting tsunami hit the coastal areas of Japan. It is found that the outflow of steel and steel truss bridges is more serious than concrete bridges. By the use of videos, the tsunami velocities in 5 severely affected areas were estimated and the overall average is about 6.0m/s. In Rikuzentakata, 30% RC buildings suffered structural damage and 40% bridges flowed out. Besides, it is found that the outflow of superstructure is able to be judged by the level of ratio β between superstructure resistance and wave horizontal force primarily.
