John Kraus i s Taine McDougal Professor Emeritus of Electrical Engineering a n d Astronomy a t t h e Ohio State University where he has been on the facul ty s ince 1946. He is a lso Director of tine Ohio State-Ohio Wesleyan Radio Observatory and i s v i s i t ing Stocker Chair Professor a t Ohio Univers i t y . lie received his P h . D . degree in physics from the University of Michigan in 1933. He i s au thor of hundreds of technical a r t i c l e s and o f the books "Antennas" (McGrawKill, 1950), "Electromagnetics" (McGraw-Hill, 1953), "Radio Astronomy" (McGraw-Hill, 1966), "Electromagnetics" 2nd edition with K . R . Carver (1 973), "Big Ear" (Cygnus-Quasar, 1976), and "Our Cosmic Universe" (CygnusQuasar, 1980). Dr. Kraus is the inventor of the helical beam antenna, the corner reflector antenna, the backward-angle-fire grid antenna, close-spaced arrays, multiwire doublets and other antenna types. Dr. Kraus i s a Fel low of the IEEE and a Member of the National Academy of Engineering.
