The woplankton study in the Loosdrecht Lakes was started in July 1981 as a part of research on production (see also BEsT et al. 1984; DE Kr. OET et al. 1984; KROMKAMP & GoNs 1984) and phosphorus dynamics (BoERS et al. 1984). In the present paper the zooplankton structure now is compared with that in 19SS for which year fortnightly data on zooplankton densities and biovolumes in one of the Loosdrecht Lakes were collected by Dr. J. FM GEELEN (unpubl. data); secondly, the grazing activities of the crustacean filterfeeders are examined in the light of trophic status of these lakes and other Dutch lakes (GuLATI et al. 1982). Besides, the present data form a base line inventory for comparing with changes likely to occur on lake restoration, work on which is planned to be commenced in early 1984 (vAN LIERE et al. 1984).
